1959
Hi Fi Sales opened on the SE corner of Main Street and Extension in Mesa to sell tube high fidelity stereo equipment, speakers and LP records.
1963
They moved to a larger store across the street to the NE corner. Big brands: Ampex, AR, Dyanco, Fisher, Scott and Garrard.
1966
Hi Fi Sales dipped a toe into video with the introduction of the original 12” Trinitron TV.
1972
Four-channel “quad” surround sound introduced, and Hi Fi opens their on-site service department.
1975-1978
New Hi Fi Sales store opens on NW corner with car audio installation center. Betamax, VHS, Laserdisc, and big screen TV introduced, leading to the birth of “home theater”.
1982
Hi Fi Sales delivers the first compact disc player to an Arizona customer. One of only 30,000 CD players sold that year.
1986
Hi Fi introduces Paradigm speakers to Arizona. Paradigm is now the #1 loudspeaker maker for serious audiophiles worldwide, with customers in over 30 countries.
1987-2004
Home theater and surround sound market grows rapidly, fueled by DirecTV, DVD players, Dolby Surround receivers and flat panel HDTVs.
2005-2008
Original owners retire, Mesa location closes.
2009
The “new” Hi Fi Sales Audio Video opens in Town & Country Shopping Center. |
